Breaking the Chains of Hypocrisy
Religious hypocrisy cuts deeper than almost any other wound, especially when it comes from those closest to us. Jesus reserved his most pointed criticisms not for obvious sinners but for those who presented a polished exterior while harboring darkness within. "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me," he declared, exposing the gap between religious performance and authentic faith.
When family members or church leaders who claim spiritual authority use that position to judge, dismiss, or control others while failing to demonstrate true Christlikeness, the damage can be profound. Many believers suffer silently under this spiritual abuse, wondering if they're alone in recognizing the disconnect. Hi friends, today's episode is heavy but important. We're talking about hypocrisy, not in the world, but in the church, in our own families and sometimes, heartbreakingly, in those closest to us. Jesus had some very direct things to say about hypocrites. These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Matthew 15, 8. These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Matthew 15, 8. Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees. You hypocrites. You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and self-indulgence. Matthew 23, 25. Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. Luke 12, 1. And he told us what to expect. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you. Because of me, rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven. For in the same way they persecuted the prophets before you. Matthew 5, 11 through 12. A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home. Mark 6, 4. A man's enemies will be those of his own household. Matthew 10, 36.
Speaker 1:I recently listened to a podcast where I was spoken about not by name but as quote-unquote that person in a way that was dismissive, judgmental and false. I chose to respond with grace, thanking the speaker for protecting my identity and even joking that it gave me ideas for how to speak about that person in the future. But deep down, it was another reminder that the spirit of hypocrisy is alive and well and it often wears the mask of holiness. I've seen this in my own family. My father was a hypocrite and a false prophet. The Lord and his mercy freed me from that bondage and I want that same freedom for everyone listening. Hypocrisy is a prison and only the truth, jesus Christ, can break the chains.
Speaker 1:I also want to highlight the beauty of God's redemption in the life of my friend Claire. I was just at her home for a woman's event where she shared her testimony of growing up in the occult, enduring unspeakable darkness and then being radically set free by Jesus through deliverance. Demons were violently cast out out and God gave her a brand new heart. Now she's on a mission to liberate other women from bondage. She's been under heavy spiritual attack this week, even in her own home, and I had the privilege of ministering to her and praying over her this morning. I believe God has big, beautiful plans for her life. Watch out, world. She is about to set hearts on fire for Jesus, and that's the truth.
Speaker 1:When we're moving in God's power, the enemy will try to smear you, silence you or pit others against you. But here's the good news no weapon formed against you will prosper. I just want to pray right now. We break every word curse, every false accusation and every work of darkness that tries to operate through family, friends or the church. Lord, for those who are living under the weight of hypocrisy, set them free, remove the masks, expose the truth and bring them into the light of your love. For those who have been hurt by false prophets and hypocrites, heal the wounds and restore the joy of their salvation. We plead the blood of Jesus over Claire, over Gavin and over every listener right now. Send your angels to guard them, your spirit to strengthen them and your truth to guide them. May every chain of bondage be shattered. In Jesus' name, we declare that your people will walk in boldness, truth, humility and power, not to please man but to glorify you, and we thank you. That great is our reward in heaven when we are persecuted for your namesake. In Jesus' mighty name, amen, be encouraged. Now is the time that the spirit of the Lord is being poured out on the sons and the daughters to prophesy, to dream dreams, to vision, to have visions, to speak your truth and to work miracles and to bring healing. Now is the time for the Deborahs to rise up, the prophetesses for the jails to raise up and to smash the head of the enemy. For us to trample upon serpents and scorpions and every lying tongue. This is the time when the wolves who are hiding under sheep's clothing are revealed. This is the time when the Jezebel spirit is going to be cast out. The Jezebel spirit is being cast out and be encouraged. We are the generation that just witnessed a miracle, a public miracle. Forrest Frank broke his back two weeks ago, made God's Got my Back song on the bed, posted that video and wrote a little caption that God is making lemonade out of lemons. The figs reached out, wrote this little song. He partnered with them. That song is trending number one in the world. In the world, it's on the charts. It's crazy popular right now and that is all God. That is all God. God takes our lemons and turns it into lemonade. God is on the move right now and it is exciting to be a part of it.
Speaker 1:I just want to pray one more prayer of deliverance and protection from demonic female spirits. Heavenly Father, in the mighty name of Jesus, I come before you as a child of the most high God, covered by the blood of the Lamb and filled with the Holy Spirit. Today I take my stand against every demonic force and woman spirit sent to destroy, distract or deceive. I renounce and break every assignment of the Jezebel spirit, every form of manipulation, control, seduction, idolatry, false prophecy and rebellion. Manipulation, control, seduction, idolatry, false prophecy and rebellion. Jezebel, you have no place in my home, my relationships, my church or my calling. I cast you down in the name of Jesus. I come against the spirit of Delilah, which seeks to weaken, disarm and seduce the children of God. Every voice of distraction, every enticement designed to cut off my spiritual strength, I silence you.
Speaker 1:Now, by the authority of Jesus Christ, I tear down the spirit of Athaliah, who comes to steal destinies and destroy godly inheritance. Every plan to kill the royal seed, my children, my purpose, my legacy, is canceled. Now I plead the blood of Jesus over my household. I rebuke the influence of Herodias and her daughter, spirits of vengeance and murderous intent toward the prophetic. Every trap set against the truth of God's word, every attempt to silence my voice or the voice of the righteous, I decree it shall not prosper. I renounce the seductions of mystery, babylon and the horror.
Speaker 1:Babylon, spirits of materialism, false religion and compromise. Purify my heart, o Lord. I want no part of what grieves. You Make me holy, set apart and faithful to the Lamb. I reject the voice of Lady Folly, which tempts with smooth words and deadly paths. Instead, I choose Lady Wisdom crying out in the streets. Lord, give me discernment to walk in your truth and avoid the path of destruction. I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper and every tongue that rises in judgment. I condemn Isaiah 54, 17. I submit to God and resist the devil, and he must flee from me.
Speaker 1:James 4, 7. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, surround me with your angels, strengthen me with boldness, discernment and purity. Let my heart be aligned with heaven and let no spirit contrary to you find access to me, my family or my destiny. In Jesus's mighty name, I pray. Amen For those listening. Thank you for listening. Thank you for taking a stand against the hypocritical, against the Pharisees, the false prophets.
Speaker 1:Jesus didn't have an issue with the sinners, the adulterers, the fornicators. He told them come to me, all who, who are weary, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and you shall find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. He took their sins and said you are healed, you are forgiven, you are set free. Go and sin no more.
Speaker 1:But to the hypocrite, to the false prophets, to those who are claiming to be God's voice on earth, who are trying to make disciples in their own strength, who are not filled with the Holy Spirit or who claim to be filled with the Holy Spirit but are not, the true sign that someone is filled with the Holy Spirit is that they go to all the people that they have offended in life or that they've sinned against, and they offer to repay that person and to make restitution for all the things that they've taken from them. So, in the life of the person I'm talking about, this person did not do that. For a long time. I've been talked bad about, spit upon, lied about, and this person has never apologized in a true way and continues to talk bad about me, even though I am clearly filled with the presence and spirit and prophecy of God, this person continues to mock, to talk bad against and to lie about, and the time for that person to stop talking is now. Whatever mantle that person thinks that they're under is ending now and I pray for deliverance over that person. I pray that they come to true repentance because if they don't, god is going to do it to you. God hates when his children are being lied about, especially in a public setting, and because you have spat upon me publicly, you also will be publicly shamed.
Speaker 1:Every family has the different characters. There's the atheist, there's the atheist, there's the prophet, there's the lukewarm, there's the incredulous, there's the wise. Who are you in your family? Are you leading people to God or are you leading people away from God? Are you the voice of truth in your family or are you a false voice? Are you a hypocritical voice? Only you can answer that, but God already knows it's time to wake up. The time for being lukewarm has come to an end.
Speaker 1:Jesus says in the book of Revelation I would to God that you were hot or cold, but because you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth because you say I am rich and made wealthy and have needed nothing, and notice not that thou art wretched and poor and blind and dumb and naked. I counsel thee to buy of me gold fire tried that thou mayest be made rich, and to cover the shame of thy nakedness with white garments and to anoint thy eyes with eyesalve that thou mayest see such as I love. I rebuke and chastise, repent, repent, repent. Everything you want is on the other side of repentance and surrender, there's been prophecies given to this person that will not come true until they repent. To this person that will not come true until they repent. I'm praying for your repentance and for your surrender because your example is will lead the rest of the family after you. I've done my job. I've been the example in our family.
Speaker 1:My husband went from an agnostic, borderline atheist who was entangled in pornography and unforgiving of himself for his past abortions, who told me that he felt dead inside multiple times and that didn't change until we started reading three chapters of the Bible together every day, out loud, and God's word washed him clean from the top of his head to the soles of his feet. God's word washed him so much so that he found Jesus in the Bible. It wasn't my preaching, it was the word of God speaking for itself. And Jesus met him at the wailing wall. When Josh read a letter out loud from his dad in front of that wall and prayed with his hands against the wall and his eyes closed, jesus showed up.
Speaker 1:Josh asked me at the beginning of our relationship. I asked him what would it take for you to believe in Jesus? And he said he's going to have to come down here, hit me upside the head and say hey, it's me. And I said okay, he can absolutely do that. And he did that. He came down here, he spoke to Josh. Josh didn't hear what he said. And then, a few months later, when we were in church, josh heard the audible voice of God tell him that his mission is to bring the Jews and the Christians together as one.
Speaker 1:And then, on our second trip to Israel, together with Sam and Kevin Sorbo, josh was baptized in the Jordan River, right where Jesus was baptized incredible. And then last week, when we took our family cruise, there was 18 of us and 10 of us were baptized. For five of us it was a re-baptism, a rededication of our life with Christ, and for the other five. It was their first time getting baptized. Josh's brother was among those who got baptized for the first time. Who got baptized for the first time. Josh's example for his brother became a catalyst in his washing clean of sins and embracing a life in Christ. I'm so excited because revival starts with family. It started with me, which went to Josh, which went to his brother and his mom, and it's slowly going to the rest of the family.
Speaker 1:And as soon as we silence the voice of the hypocrite and the false prophet in that person, that person the same term that was used against me to say how I was not filled with the Holy Spirit. Now that I am filled with the Holy Spirit and speaking by the Holy Spirit, that person has nothing to say except yes and amen. And I'm sorry. That person is going to fall to their knees and confess and repent and go to every person in the family and apologize, because it's not just me who this person offended, but the whole, the whole family. And I'm seeking God to work on that heart, because only the Lord can take a stony, stony, stony, stony heart and give that person a heart of flesh. And no, I'm not taking this podcast down. This podcast will be a stone of remembrance against you and it'll be used as a testimony for when you do repent. Thank you all for listening and we'll see you back on Spark.
