SPARK: Igniting Faith, Family, and Revival
Faith in Every Chapter: Maria Termotto-Horwitz on Blessed Beginnings & Blessed Life Ever
What happens when you rewrite scripture in the first person? Maria Termotto-Horwitz discovered this powerful practice transformed not just her faith journey but her entire life. After surviving her mother's suicide at age 13, Maria's faith journey took her from extreme materialism to radical spirituality before finding balance in biblical truth.
Maria joins Pastor Chuck Reich to share the inspiration behind her books "Blessed Life Ever: Biblical Affirmations for Victorious Living" and "Blessed Beginnings: Embracing Pregnancy and Parenthood Through Biblical Wisdom." She explains how personalizing 848 Bible verses from Genesis to Revelation created a revolutionary approach to scripture that anyone can practice daily.
The conversation delves into Maria's powerful testimony of family trauma and redemption. She reveals how her mother's light was "stamped out" by her father's spiritual darkness, and how understanding this helped her heal. Maria's husband Josh also shares his journey from Jewish agnosticism to finding Jesus as Messiah, including a profound mountaintop experience that led to spiritual breakthrough and the miraculous conception of their daughter.
Particularly moving is Maria's description of their home birth experiences and how creating a peaceful, prayer-filled environment for their children's entry into the world shaped their temperaments. She challenges common cultural practices around childbirth, parenting, and even holidays like Halloween, offering biblical wisdom as an alternative guide.
Throughout the interview, Maria emphasizes her core philosophy: "You can't have the blessings without the Blesser." Her practical advice includes reading three chapters of scripture daily, speaking life-giving words, and allowing God's truth to transform your thought patterns through personalized biblical affirmations.
Whether you're struggling with past trauma, seeking to deepen your faith, or simply looking for practical ways to apply scripture to daily life, Maria's testimony offers hope, encouragement, and a roadmap for experiencing the "blessed lif

Speaker 2:Welcome to another interview on Overcomers TV Live. I'm Pastor Chuck Riesch. I have an awesome opportunity and privilege to interview today Maria Tamato Horwitz, author of Blessed Life. Ever Good to see you, Maria.
Speaker 3:Good to see you, Pastor Chuck. Thank you for having us.
Speaker 2:You're welcome. You're welcome so Overcomers TV is based on 1 John 5, 4. It says whoever is born of God overcomes. This is the second half of that verse and this is a victory that has overcome the world. Our faith Love for you to talk and share a little bit about your faith journey. Can't have the blessed life ever without the blesser in it. So tell us a little bit of how did Jesus become real to you?
Speaker 3:Yes, so I grew up with a mother who always poured into us and spoke life over us, even though she personally was struggling with suicide and depression and a narcissistic husband and a broken family. She always was the light for us and even after she died, when I was 13 years old, I still carried that light that she had given me. And it became real when I was a teenager and I was listening to the Bible audio and I just heard the word of God coming through the speaker and I was overcome by it and I just decided to give my life completely to God. And at that point in life I had my period of being very vain and prideful and into all the designer brands, and now I was being homeschooled as a 17-year-old and after hearing the Bible audio, I said I just need to start over.
Speaker 3:So I took three giant trash bags, emptied my entire closet designer Louis Vuitton belts and coach purses and Tory Burch shoes and Tiffany jewelry. I put it all in a trash bag. I took it outside. I said see you there, don't come back. And yeah, that started the journey. And then I went too far into the faith. I was fasting, I was praying, I was living a stay-at-home. Nun life almost.
Speaker 4:And it was not attractive to anybody.
Speaker 3:And then, after finding my first boyfriend, I went way the other way and sleeping before marriage with him and just putting my faith on the back burner for my pleasure. And then God encountered me and then so now we're not either way, we're just kind of in the middle. So praise the Lord on that.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, praise God. I always say before we had a clue, god knew, and there's joy in the journey and there's a lot of lessons learning how to hear his voice. So, you know, super excited to have you on our author's nook page today. We'll be adding you to that under overcomers TV live, we have an author's nook page and just a lot of you know, great authors that have had an experience, encounter with God. And, before we go even too far, there on Amazon you can even look up blessed life ever biblical affirmations for victorious living. And then there's even a newer book, blessed beginnings, embracing pregnancy and parenthood through biblical wisdom. So which book do you want to talk about first?
Speaker 3:Let's talk about Blessed Life Ever.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 3:So my first job I was a health and fitness instructor and I would always say have the best day ever. And then, when I became a full-time realtor, I said let's find your best home ever. And then when we started our home church, which we've had for two and a half years and it's been growing, we have about 50 people that meet once a month at our house and we call that blessed life ever and it's a mindset. When I was 12 years old, I read a book that changed my life. It's called Hidden Messages in Water and it just goes deeper into what Jesus said when he said what the Bible said the power of life and death is on your tongue.
Speaker 3:And to proclaim God's word over your life. So I was always in the habit of doing that and I had countless Bible affirmation books. But what annoyed me about all of them is that they weren't the whole Bible. They were heavily just on the epistles, very little about on what Jesus said and hardly anything from the prophets, the Torah, the old Testament in general and the the Bible affirmation books I had. They were not in order, it was sporadic. It might be categorized by sadness, joy, loneliness, and that didn't interest me because I just wanted to have the blessed life ever.
Speaker 3:So what I did was put together 848 of the best Bible verses, in order from Genesis to Revelation, rewritten in first person, and many people will tell you that when they read the Bible over their life they change it into first person. But there's no book that does that for you. So the Bible verse, for instance, joshua 1.9, one of my favorites, where it says be strong and courageous in the Lord, do not fear, do not be dismayed for the Lord, your God is with you wherever you go. Just say I am strong and courageous in the Lord, I do not fear and I'm not dismayed For the Lord, my God is with me whithersoever I go.
Speaker 2:Amen. Pause there for a second. We got Bible Gateway up. Today is the verse of the day, ephesians 2.10, another great verse, for we are his workmanship. The Greek also kind of alludes to a poem we are his poem, his workmanship. Some translation say masterpiece created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Speaker 3:So I just wanted to throw that out there. So that verse is already written in first person. So the I or the we, so that one's good and you see how powerful that is. But when you're reading a verse and it says you, it doesn't connect the same.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's good. So that was an awesome thing to point out there. That's good. And then so here's Joshua, one nine. Have I not commanded you to be strong and of good courage? Do not be afraid nor dismayed, for the Lord, your God, is with you wherever you go. And again, you know, we just need to acknowledge that God is omnipresent, he's all powerful, all knowing. He's, you know, it's everywhere, so it's a fact. Is, are you acknowledging that and what he's doing in your life? Right? So a lot of people are just lost as a goose. They're not even connected. They're separated from God. Their sin has separated them. So simple gospel message. You know, for that person who may not have that real relationship yet struggles with religion, what would you say to them?
Speaker 3:For the person that struggles with religion and doesn't have a relationship, I would say that if you are not reading three chapters of the Bible out loud every day, that you're not going to have a relationship. The God of all humanity, the creator of mankind, wrote you a love letter. This is his love letter. How could you say that you love him but you don't even read a love letter? This is his love letter. How could you say that you love him but you don't even read his love letter? And if you start studying this and start getting into the word three chapters a day your life will literally transform. I've seen it happen in my own life, in my husband's life, and who he was now is 180 degrees different than who he was when he first put up that Bible. To do three chapters a day.
Speaker 2:Amen. Well, there's Lisa Grucio commenting in. She's the one who connected us and she goes. I knew you would love her. She's a true powerhouse, chuck. I love her.
Speaker 3:Love you, Lisa.
Speaker 2:She was so excited yesterday that we were going to have this interview today. So, praise God. Anybody who wants to make a comment, we can put them on the sides. Any questions, we record these and go live on social media while we record it for the network and put it into the system to rebroadcast again and again on Roku, apple TV, amazon Fire TV. It's pretty amazing because people have a testimony. And back to reading three chapters a day. It's really a testimony. That's why we call old testament new testament. It's a testament to what god did. And then the, the game changer, when jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins. No longer do we have animal sacrifices. That we did see in the old testament, that god himself became our sin sacrifice. And again to make to pay the payment we all deserve. And again back to the Bible verse. You mentioned Proverbs 3, 5. That's a famous verse for a lot of people and I almost say you can't do 3, 5 without 6. The whole book, the whole chapter is great. But so there's 3, five and six.
Speaker 3:And if you want to read that, I'd love to talk about that In the book. So that's what it says in the Bible Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths. So in the book it's rewritten to say I trust in the Lord with all my heart and I lean not on my own understanding.
Speaker 2:In all my heart and I lean not on my own understanding. In all my ways I acknowledge him and he shall direct my path.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and that's moment by moment, step by step, right Absolutely. And after each chapter there's discussion, questions, practical application and journaling. So as you're taking the word of God and consuming it and living by it and digesting it, there's space to journal. And at the back of the book is my husband's testimony from darkness to light, from being agnostic who was raised Jewish, to accepting Jesus as the Messiah. And then is also my testimony from surviving my mother's suicide and my father's.
Speaker 3:I'm coming to the realization of what it was, and what it was is we were living with a false prophet and we are living with a modern-day Pharisee hypocrite, and being able to acknowledge it has been huge. I just listened to a video and it was talking about how to identify someone who has the Holy Spirit, the fire of the Holy Spirit, in them. And now I know that my mother had the Holy Spirit. Every room she walked into lit up. She brought joy and gladness and peace wherever she went. But then my father was jealous of that light and he stamped the light out of her and she didn't die by suicide, she died because her light was stamped out.
Speaker 2:Wow, that's traumatic and horrific, and we also serve a God who says he can make a beauty from ashes. All things work together for good. Not that everything that happens is good, because we know there's a lot of evil in the world and people do sinful things and there's a lot of accidents, disease, there's just all kinds of heartbreaking stories like this but God will use it Look how he's using it in your life as part of your testimony Again, to know that God has a plan. This isn't all of it. This is the beginning. I think we all need to RSVP through Jesus to be on the list to get into heaven forever and ever, and we're just meeting each other here and now.
Speaker 2:And there's a lot of church hurt and religion and false religions, false prophets, false teachers, and that's when Jesus said you'll know them by their fruit. You know they actually deny Jesus being the Christ. And, however, there are some Christians who just have a lot of issues like codependency, controlling issues. We all are like dogs with fleas and ticks and we're trying to get defleated and deticked with all of our issues and it causes damage not to make light of any of that, but you know, I I love how you harness that and it's part of the story, your testimony, and even your husband, a messianic jew. Now you, you know that's a big misconception. We could do a whole show on that. How some jewish people think receiving messiah completes your jewishness. It doesn't change your jewishness, right you want to touch a little bit on that maybe it's a good word right absolutely, absolutely.
Speaker 3:My husband's father is still Jewish and when he confronts Josh about Jesus, he said a Jew is always a Jew is always a Jew. And Josh is like, yes, I am more Jewish than I've ever been in my entire life and I met the Messiah who you say you're waiting for.
Speaker 2:Right, and that's it. You know, again, there's some ministries that just focus on how to witness to Jewish people. Isaiah 58 is a big eye opener, which is 700 years before the cross. A picture of Jesus being on the cross casting lots for his clothes. His hands, his feet were pierced. There's just a lot of things that happened there. Even Psalms 22, which is 28 generations before, is when King David was here. So 28 along the lineage of Messiah, king David, 28 generations, I mean.
Speaker 2:Sometimes we lose the time sequence. You have 1,500 years during the Old Testament when Moses started rising, which is about 3,500 years from now, and then we're coming up on 2,000 years when Messiah died, rose again and ascended. So there's a lot of history and, like you said, to read three chapters a day, you'll read the whole Bible in a year and you're taking 1,600 years of history in and we lose the concept of how, over time, these things came to pass. You know so, but, uh, I love your heart for the word, and you know so. We have this book built, blessed life, ever biblical affirmations for victorious living. And then we have blessed beginnings, embracing pregnancy and parenthood through biblical wisdom. We even have a show called Choose Life. So you want to talk a little bit about this book.
Speaker 3:Yes. So those of you who are mothers can relate that having children just brings you so close to the father's heart that it's no wonder the devil tries to stamp out life, because he knows that once you have that baby in your hand, you feel what the father feels when he's holding us and overnight you become more patient, more loving, more compassionate, more pure, more modest. I mean there's so many virtues that happen overnight with having children. Modest, I mean there's so many virtues that happen overnight with having children. And there are certain things that I wish I knew before becoming a mother. That would have greatly helped my pregnancy, my delivery, the early time with the babies, and I feel like I've been giving so much wisdom that I want to share it with these new moms.
Speaker 3:So when there's a new mother who is pregnant and she's like I just need a book that aligns with biblical values and isn't confusing and giving me all this information that I don't need. I just want a book that gives me exactly what I need for the period that I'm in, that I can know that it's biblically sound and will help me navigate through this tumultuous time with big pharma, false information and the pharmakia that the book of Revelation warns us about that in the last days. The whole world shall be deceived by the pharmakia is what it says in the original language.
Speaker 2:That's where we get the word pharmaceuticals. Not every medicine is bad, but we definitely. You know, you see these commercials. Then the side effects are worse than the problem they're trying to treat, from thoughts of suicide to you name it heart problems, kidney problems, and I know there's good medicine and then there's the abusive medicine. And God uses medicine. But, yeah, pharmakia is really that word where witchcraft, which you know peyote for the Native Americans, trying to and I have some, some of my friends that have fallen into the Native American they're like licking the poison off the back of toads, using mushrooms to try to engage in spiritual activity. That is all witchcraft, witchcraft, witchcraft.
Speaker 2:So here's another Bible verse that Deuteronomy, 18, is a great chapter because this is where Moses talks about the next prophet, which is about Jesus, the capital P prophet. But before he even gets into all that, he talks about wicked customs. And 18, verse 9, deuteronomy when you come into the land the Lord, your God, has given you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. You shall not be found among you Anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire. That's sacrifice. You might as well put your child on a barbecue grill, right? Couldn't think of that.
Speaker 2:Or one who practices witchcraft, or soothsayer, one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, one who conjures spells, or a medium or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord. Because of these abominations, the Lord, your God, drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord, your God. For these nations which you will dispossess, listen to soothsayers and diviners, and for you. The Lord has not appointed you to such. So this is a great verse to talk about when it comes to Halloween. It's a great verse to talk about when people go to psychics or Harry Potter books. For those moms who just love the, your turn, pick it up from there.
Speaker 3:Man, I have lost friends, I've been ridiculed, I've everything. I'm just sharing this podcast with a few people while I'm on. Oh, man, I mean, if you want to just have a devil's holiday, celebrate Halloween, oh, have no part in anything. That even looks wicked is what the Bible tells us. And for a holiday to publicly celebrate horror and the dead and spells demonic darkness more, I mean, there's so many crimes that happened on that day. There's so much.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 3:If you see videos of adults who are dressed in scary costumes surprising little children and you see the terror on those children's faces, you know this is a demonic holiday.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you know this is demonic holiday.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I even remember being six years old bringing through a haunted house with the hands coming out of the walls and with a, which is on the table right which is night and day.
Speaker 2:you were probably a little girl. But 1999, october 31st 1999, calvary chapel, fort lauderdale, had their brand new campus and they had trunk and treat kids dressing up as bible characters, still doing a candy thing on a safe place with bounce houses. And we called it Hallelujah Night just another night to praise the Lord. And if you're interested in spiritual things, let us introduce you to the light of the world. John 8, 12,. Jesus said I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but have the light of life. So I believe everything's redeemable. It's just what's the focus, and that's really worship, love and adore. What are you loving, what are you adoring? It's either creator God or creation, and that's the separation in Romans, one that we talk about. You know we love the creation more than the creator, and you use the word bless. We like the blessings more than the blesser. I mean, casting Crowns is a great song that kind of talks about that.
Speaker 3:Exactly.
Speaker 2:You can't have the blessings without the blesser. Back to the titles of your book.
Speaker 3:Yeah, you can't have the blessings without the blesser, and since my children would like to be part of it, let them say hi Hang on Nice.
Speaker 2:All right, I'm going to make a big screen here. Here we are. There's their debut here we are Tennessee.
Speaker 3:Say hi to the world. Giddy boy say hi, Yay, Yay.
Speaker 2:Two and one, one in the right hand, one in the left. Praise the Lord.
Speaker 3:They're like arrows in the hand of a warrior. Blessed is he who fills his quiver with them. They shall not be put to shame.
Speaker 2:Amen, and I heard a preacher once say that quiver and those arrows weren't meant to be in that quiver forever. They're meant to be launched. So you got about 18 years to get them ready to launch, according to some are early, some are failure to launch. 30 years old they're still living with mom and dad. They haven't launched yet.
Speaker 3:Right, right, and we actually just launched a homeschool co-op called Like Arrows.
Speaker 2:Nice.
Speaker 3:So training up these little arrows to be firing dark in the hand of the Lord.
Speaker 2:That is powerful. That is really good. We've got about six, seven minutes left. What else has the Lord put on your heart to share with us today about your books?
Speaker 1:Yes, yes.
Speaker 2:Yes, while you're thinking, lisa just quoted hey, now.
Speaker 3:Hey, lisa, you're such a light for so many people and you are a connector and I appreciate that gift that you share with the world. And what I can share is well, this is a great thing to share. This is going to be part of the book. You can still play with Legos up here, it's fine, okay?
Speaker 3:So four months after Josh and I got married, we attended a. We attended a marriage retreat in the mountains of Colorado, at the Glen Erie Castle in Colorado Springs, nice, and Josh already three, four months into the marriage, he's saying like God is punishing me, we're not pregnant already, there's something wrong. Like I need, we need to have a baby. I'm like yo chill, we just got married, I know you want to be part of it too, and so on this marriage retreat, one of the homeworks was to go alone and go pray and Josh found himself in a rose garden and he just had this moment with God when God put on his heart that he has to forgive himself of his past three abortions and one of the abortions was with twins and the other abortion was another baby and he had kid himself and just saying it's a little speck, it doesn't mean anything, it's not real life, it's just tissues.
Speaker 3:So he forgave himself and we, on another homework assignment, we climbed a mountain, the tallest mountain next to the castle, and we found this pile of rocks on the top of the mountain. And on the top of the pile of rocks was one rock that we broke and it split in three pieces, one for me, one for Josh and one for God, and we left the God piece on top of the mountain and we went back down and would you know it, but that very day, in the penthouse room of the castle cause we were in the King's suite, we were in the penthouse, like you had to go up this winding staircase to the tallest tower of the tallest castle.
Speaker 3:We had 180 degree view of the mountains. And would you know that something miraculous happened there Heaven touched earth. And leaving the castle, we went to Genesee mountain and I had the thought, looking at the sign, if I'm pregnant right now. Genesee is the perfect name for a baby girl and I looked up the meaning Genesee meant a beautiful, pleasant Valley and it was also the name of the mountain and a river. And here's our little genesee.
Speaker 2:Praise the Lord. That's awesome.
Speaker 3:Yes. And then little giddy boy, little Gideon, our little warrior. We had his name picked out too, because we didn't find out the gender until the birth. So both of them were a complete surprise. They were wrapped up in my womb and I didn't open my present till the special day. And little giddy boy, his birth was at 1.29 am in the stillness of our house. We had a. The midwife just got there. She was praying over me, I was sitting in the tub and then after her prayer which I have recorded, it's amazing she turned around to mess with the blow up tub, but I was already in our bathtub and three seconds later she turns back around and I'm holding Giddy Boy in the bathtub. And he was born with no pain. He just swam out and we're holding him for a minute. Josh jumps in the tub and I'm like what's the gender? And then we check and he's like it's a boy. I'm like it's a boy. This is our Gideon.
Speaker 3:And from the beginning little Gideon has been such a light. Every person who sees him says he's so giddy, he's so happy all the time. And I think how you come into the world, it takes your temperament If you come in with lights and scary noises and being separated from mommy, like you're going to have trauma that you have to heal from. But if you come in the stillness of the night with Christian music playing and people praying over you and the stillness of that holy hour, your child is going to be blessed from the get and that's how Jesus came in and look at how he was blessed.
Speaker 2:That's a good point and that's one of our shows. Choose Life If you want your best life now. Children are a blessing of the Lord. Any mom who's had a child, granted some teenagers and even terrible twos, will give you a moment where you're at your wit's end. But there's still, overall, a blessing, and that's. I love how, again your books and again Choose Life. We want to encourage women to choose life and read the book from a mom Blessed Life, ever Biblical Affirmations for Victorious Living and, of course, Blessed Beginnings Embracing Pregnancy and Parenthood Through Biblical Wisdom. And there's a lot of moms in the Bible that are good examples and we have modern day. You know moms as well. I'd love for you to lead our viewers in prayer and we'll encourage them. If you want to invite Maria to speak in your church, you can do that as well. You can call or text 561-779-9452, or even Overcomers TV 561-313-3165. Maria, you want to lead us in prayer?
Speaker 3:Yes, thank you, lord, for bringing us together for such a time as this. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May he shine his face upon you and be gracious to you. May he look upon you kindly and give you peace. May everything you put your hands to prosper. May the Holy Spirit permeate every single cell of your body and may, when you speak, you speak with life and love. And may darkness flee in our presence. By the blood of the lamb, the word of our testimony, mary, names you've written in the book of life of the lamb come Lord Jesus, amen.
Speaker 2:Amen, amen, lord, thank you for time with Maria. Thank you for Lisa making the connection. Thank you for helping her publish these books. May it be a blessing to others as well, as they read it and find encouragement and even whet their appetite to stay in the big book, the 66 books within the Bible, book that your Holy Spirit has inspired men to write down and preserve over the centuries, and how it still speaks, as Hebrews 4, 12 says it's living and it's active, sharper than any two-edged sword. So we just pray blessings over this family. Thank you for Maria and Josh. Thank you for the mountaintop experience, the conception and the children, the fruit of the womb, the arrows in their quiver. May they be launched and have amazing testimonies for your glory, in Jesus name.
Speaker 3:Amen' name amen. Thank you, Pastor Chuck, You're so welcome.
