God Will Not Be Mocked: From Betrayal to Restoration

Maria Termotto-Horwitz Season 1 Episode 12

Have you ever trusted someone completely, only to watch them betray that trust in devastating ways? Our family's testimony of betrayal and restoration reveals a powerful truth: God sees what others try to hide.

What began as a promising joint venture to remodel a home quickly became a nightmare when the equity was drained before the house could sell. Cut off from the family trust and mocked for our efforts, we were forced to surrender the property back to the lender. This financial devastation opened our eyes to recognize patterns of abuse, abandonment, and exploitation that had been hidden in plain sight for years. Women discarded when they "didn't measure up," promised support suddenly withdrawn, and children left essentially fatherless – all part of a destructive cycle we had somehow normalized.

In our darkest moment, God intervened through supernatural means – bringing California buyers who somehow sensed the property's tragic history without being told. This divine intervention reminded us of biblical parallels like Joseph, betrayed by his brothers yet later declaring "you meant it for evil, but God meant it for good," and Jacob, whose deceitful father-in-law Laban changed his wages repeatedly until God finally brought justice. We watched as everything our betrayer touched eventually crumbled – relationships, businesses, ventures – while God continued blessing our path forward.

For anyone feeling overlooked, abandoned, or cheated right now: God sees you. He witnesses every injustice, keeps perfect accounts, and promises restoration in His timing. The inheritance that slipped from your hands, the relationships that shattered, the responsibilities others walked away from – none of it escapes His notice. Trust that the God who defends widows and fathers the fatherless will also vindicate you, turning what was meant for evil into something beautiful beyond imagination. Speaker 1:

God will not be mocked, a testimony of justice and restoration. Have you ever trusted someone only to watch them turn around and betray that trust? Have you ever poured your heart, your resources and your prayers into something, only to watch it slip right through your fingers? Have you ever felt the sting of being abandoned, mocked or left with nothing, while the other person walked away untouched? If you've been there, then you'll understand why this story is so close to our hearts. For us, it began with what we thought was a blessing. Our family entered into a joint venture to remodel a home and we believed it was a chance to build a future. We poured everything into it time, money, prayers, even fasting. But before the house could even sell, the equity was drained out. What was meant to bless us ended up crushing us and because the money had come from the family trust, we were cut out of that trust altogether. It was heartbreaking. People even mocked the renovation. They laughed at what had been done and eventually the weight of it was just too much. We had no choice but to surrender the house back to the lender and in that season of loss, our thoughts couldn't help but go back to others who we had seen treated in the same way.

Speaker 1:

After my mom died, women were brought into the picture Young, beautiful, hopeful. My brothers and I weren't naive. We saw them come and go. Some left quickly because they didn't measure up and others stayed because they did. One gave everything, even children, and was still cast aside. And there was also the abandonment of responsibility. For years, financial support was promised and then one day it stopped. No explanation, no care for the ones left behind. A woman was left like a widow, children were left fatherless. As we lost that house, we felt her pain, because betrayal feels the same, whether it's financial, relational or spiritual. It leaves you asking God where were you in this? Do you see? Do you care? But that's when God showed us he did see.

Speaker 1:

Out of nowhere we received an all-cash quick-close offer from a buyer in California. We walked into the house with the police to gain entry and as the buyers looked around, they sensed it, without a saying, a word. They knew my mom had taken her life in that house. They felt the heaviness and when the deal was done, it was like God was saying nothing is hidden from me. I will bring truth to light.

Speaker 1:

That episode took the wool off my eyes. It opened me up to see what I had been blind to for so long, that my brothers and I had survived years and years of abuse, not just emotional, but mental, spiritual and even physical abuse, especially against my brother. It was like God pulled back the curtain and showed me the truth that what I thought was just a series of hard circumstances was actually a pattern of destruction, and once you see it, you can't unsee it. But that's where I also began to understand something deeper that God had been watching the whole time and his word has always promised that he would defend, restore and vindicate. And I began to notice something else Everything this man put his hand to failed Relationships, businesses, every venture ended in strife, often lawsuits.

Speaker 1:

He even admitted one day, saying everything you and your husband put your hands to prospers, but it feels like everything I touch crumbles. His life became a tragedy because wherever he went, destruction followed. That is what happens when you mock God Biblical Parallels. When we think of our story, we think of Joseph, betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery and imprisoned for years. It looked like injustice had the last word, but in God's timing Joseph rose to power and when his brothers bowed before him, joseph said you meant it for evil, but God meant it for good Genesis 50, 20. We also think of Jacob working under his father-in-law, laban. He worked faithfully, but Laban cheated him again and again, changing his wages 10 times. Yet God said I have seen all that Laban has done to you. Genesis 31, 12. And in the end, jacob left with more than he ever thought possible, because God himself vindicated him.

Speaker 1:

These stories remind us when people deceive, exploit or abandon us, god is watching. He keeps the books, he balances the scales. His justice is always greater than man's schemes and we believe the Lord is saying this for someone listening right now. I have seen what was stolen from you. I have seen how you are wronged and abandoned. I know the inheritance that slipped from your hands, the relationships that shattered, the responsibilities others walked away from. You have felt overlooked, but I never overlooked you.

Speaker 1:

I will restore what was stolen. I will expose what was hidden. I will turn the tables in my timing, for I am the God who restores and I will not be mocked. Father, we thank you that you are a God of justice and mercy. You are the defender of widows, the father to the fatherless and the restorer of the brokenhearted, for every person listening who has been betrayed, abandoned or cheated. We pray for strength, healing and hope. Lord, remind them that you see them, you hear their cries and you will restore what was stolen in ways that no one can deny. Help them to trust, like Joseph, that even what was meant for evil can be turned for good. Help them to wait, like Jacob, knowing you see every injustice and will bring vindication in your time. And may each listener be able to say God had the last word, he was faithful, he restored In Jesus' name amen.
